Bedlinen, terry towels, kitchen linen, table linen and made-ups roll out of mills around the Karur-Pugalur-Aravakurichi belt every week, headed to ports at Tuticorin, Chennai and Cochin and onward to the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the Gulf. With Tamil Nadu home-textiles exports tracking around the Rs 8,000-crore mark in recent years and Karur contributing the lion's share, every consignment needs a wooden bale-crate, a heat-treated pallet, or container dunnage that won't fail in transit. Karur's packaging demand isn't one homogeneous market. It splits across four overlapping pockets that buy plywood in different formats:
The home-textiles export belt
Concentrated around Thennilai Road, Andankoil East, Pasupathipalayam and the Karur-Erode Road, this is the heart of the bedlinen and terry-towel industry. Compressed fabric bales need plywood top/bottom caps and edge protectors; full-container shipments need 1140 mm x 1140 mm export pallets and 9 mm to 12 mm plywood load-floor.
SIDCO and SIPCOT estates
The SIDCO Industrial Estate at Thalapatti and the SIPCOT Industrial Complex at Pugalur house a mix of engineering, auto-component and chemical units. These plants need ISPM-15 stamped crates for heavier machinery exports, not just bale-grade ply.
Bus-body and automotive cluster
Karur has a long-standing bus-body building reputation, with workshops along the Karur-Trichy NH route. They consume 18 mm and thicker shuttering and commercial plywood for internal panels, jigs and form-work.
Aravakurichi paper and packaging sub-cluster
The Aravakurichi-Kulithalai stretch carries paper mills and converters who blend corrugated outers with wooden pallets and bottoms for heavy loads. This is a mixed-material zone and we typically supply the wooden-pallet side, not the corrugated side.

Okoume plywood for premium export crates
For export consignments where the crate itself has to look the part — automotive jigs, mill-direct premium-bedlinen shipments to the EU, machinery for the GCC — Okoume face-veneer plywood gives a clean, light-coloured finish. Priced on enquiry; lead time from Kochi is typically 5 to 7 days for trailer-load quantities.
Ready ISPM-15 crates and pallets
For SIPCOT and SIDCO buyers exporting under wood-packaging rules, we supply ISPM-15 heat-treated and HT-stamped crates and pallets from registered facilities. Standard export pallet sizes we move regularly to Tamil Nadu:
- 1200 mm x 800 mm (Euro pallet — EU-bound textiles)
- 1200 mm x 1000 mm (UK / general export)
- 1140 mm x 1140 mm (container-optimised, 20 per 20 ft container)
- 1100 mm x 1100 mm (US / ISO standard)
Container flooring and dunnage
12 mm to 18 mm packing-grade ply rip-cut into 1220 mm wide strips for false-flooring inside containers; 100 mm x 100 mm and 75 mm x 75 mm sawn-timber dunnage in rubberwood or jackwood for blocking and bracing.
Sawn timber
Jackwood runners at Rs 400 / cft (quarter-inch-minus tolerance) for crate framing; rubberwood runners priced by size for lighter bale crates.
Kochi to Karur: the route and the economics
The lane is roughly 280 km from Perumbavoor / Kochi to Karur via NH-544 (Salem road) and NH-83. A loaded trailer leaves the factory in the evening, clears the Walayar check-post, runs through Coimbatore and reaches Karur in 8 to 10 driving hours — most consignments unload by the next morning. We typically run:
- Full trailer (32 ft / 16 MT) — best economics for bulk plywood sheets, around 800 to 1,000 sheets per trailer depending on thickness.
- Container truck (20 ft / 9 MT) — for ISPM-15 crate kits and mixed loads with pallets.
- Part-loads via Coimbatore-Karur consolidators — for smaller monthly off-takes; transit adds about 24 hours.
Because Karur is a regular lane for us, freight cost per sheet stays competitive against North-Kerala-based suppliers despite the longer distance — the trip is direct, the road is good, and the return-leg from Karur often carries textiles back towards Cochin Port, which helps trucker pricing.
Which grade for which load?
Use packing-grade (MR) plywood when

- You are capping or boxing fabric bales, light home-textile cartons
- Budget per crate matters more than aesthetics
Use Okoume face-veneer plywood when
- The end-customer sees the crate (premium brand exports)
- You need a lighter, cleaner-grain face on the outer skin
- Crate is for high-value machinery, automotive jigs, art / display goods
Use shuttering / 18 mm commercial plywood when
- The job is bus-body internals, jigs, fixtures or re-usable form-work
- The crate must survive 3-plus trips
- You are building pallet decks for heavy machinery exports

Do you supply ISPM-15 certified crates ready for export?
Yes. We work with registered HT-treatment facilities and stamp crates with the IPPC mark before dispatch to Karur. Documentation accompanies the consignment so it clears customs without query at Tuticorin or Chennai.
What is the minimum order quantity to Karur?
